1. Product overview

Steel-mesh reinforced plastic composite pipe is an improved steel-reinforced thermoplastic pipe, also known as STRP pipe. High-strength plastic-coated steel wire forms the reinforcing mesh, while high-density polyethylene creates the inner and outer pipe layers.

A high-performance modified bonding resin joins the steel framework firmly to the polyethylene. This solves the conventional bonding problem between steel and PE, produces an effective composite structure, overcomes the weaknesses of both materials and retains their respective advantages.

2. Product structure

The inner and outer layers are extruded polyethylene. Between them, high-strength steel wire is continuously wound at a specified angle—normally close to the balanced angle of 54.7 degrees—to provide internal-pressure capacity, ring stiffness and axial rigidity.

Special hot-melt adhesive bonds both faces of the steel mesh to the inner and outer PE layers. This integrated structure lets the plastic and reinforcement work together and prevents delamination, so the wire and polyethylene become one composite body.

3. Core advantages

High strength and stiffness: the mesh bears greater internal pressure than ordinary PE pipe and resists external soil loads. Corrosion resistance: polyethylene completely encloses the steel and isolates it from the medium and environment. Flexibility and impact strength: the PE layers provide toughness and absorb shocks.

The steel skeleton limits long-term creep. The smooth inner wall provides efficient hydraulic performance and resists scaling. The pipe is lighter than comparable metal pipe, making transport and installation easier, while its design life can reach 50 years.

4. Main applications

Municipal engineering: water supply, drainage, fire networks, rainwater collection and standards-compliant gas transport. Energy and chemicals: oil, natural gas and compatible chemical fluids. Agriculture: water-saving drip irrigation and high-pressure sprinklers.

Mining: slurry, tailings and positive-pressure ventilation or dust-removal systems. Special applications include seawater-desalination pipework, hot-spring water up to 60°C and power or communications cable sleeves.
